Project planning across industries

Which industries use Project Planners?

Project planning is not limited to construction. Organisations across many industries need Project Planners, Planning Engineers, Schedulers and Project Controls professionals to coordinate activities, monitor progress, manage changes and forecast project completion.

Project Planners work across a wide range of sectors, including:

  • Construction, Civil Engineering & Infrastructure
  • Rail, Highways & Transport
  • Energy, Nuclear & Renewable Energy
  • Utilities, Water & Telecommunications
  • Defence, Aerospace & Aviation
  • Information Technology & Software
  • Data Centres & Digital Infrastructure
  • Oil, Gas & Petrochemicals
  • Manufacturing & Industrial Projects
  • Healthcare & Hospital Developments
  • Logistics & Supply Chain
  • Government & Public Sector

Although project environments differ, many core planning skills are transferable: developing logic-linked programmes, identifying the critical path, establishing baselines, updating progress, assessing delays, forecasting completion dates and reporting performance. Baseline teaches these practical skills in Primavera P6, alongside project controls principles and career preparation.

Project Planning & Primavera P6 Mentorship – UK

Thinking about becoming a Project Planner, changing careers or building on your existing experience? Baseline’s practical UK mentorship develops Primavera P6 scheduling and project controls skills through programme creation, activity logic, baselining, progress updates, reporting, change management, assignments and interview preparation.

These skills are valuable across construction, civil engineering, rail, highways, energy, nuclear, utilities, defence, aerospace, data centres, IT, oil and gas, and government projects. We use real construction and infrastructure examples to teach core project planning skills that transfer across sectors.

What will I learn during the Project Planning Mentorship Programme?

You’ll develop logic-linked programmes in Primavera P6, build WBS structures and baselines, identify the critical path, update progress, and prepare lookahead and performance reports. You’ll also learn about delay, change and recovery planning, including NEC programme requirements where relevant.

Can I become a Project Planner without a construction background?

Yes. The mentorship is suitable for people entering project planning from other careers as well as those already working in a project environment. The programme teaches practical planning and project controls skills, not a formal project management qualification. Career opportunities depend on your experience, learning and applications.
